Dear parents and/or guardians,
You must be wondering what your children are doing in school for the first few weeks. Well, first and foremost, it takes time to settle in and get all the routines and rules of the classroom memorized. Once that is set, students and teachers can get to the instructional time. Personally, I do not like to pull kids out in the first week or two. I think it is essential that they get the information from the general education teacher about their classrooms. However, I do go in to the classrooms, introduce myself and talk to the children. My priority is to get to know the students in the first few weeks. Once I know what they like and do not like, I can tailor my instruction to fit their needs much better.
Then I believe that each and every student should be tested. I test students in the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Throughout the year, I also keep data. Data helps me keep track of student progress.
Assessments that I will use:
DIBELS-- Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of assessments used for universal screening and progress monitoring in grades K-6. They are standardized, efficient and extensively researched.
Several different Math assessments that I have collected over the years. The math assessments will help me determine what the students' strengths and weaknesses are and where I need to meet them in order to teach specific skills.
